The English-Speaking Union is an international charity founded in 1918 to promote "international understanding and friendship through the use of the English language."

That has never been so important and never so possible. The world desperately needs international understanding and the reach of English provides a way of achieving it.

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh kindly hosted the annual ESU Awards Ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 12 November at which the winners of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh ESU English Language Book Award and ESU President's Award were presented with certificates from His Royal Highness.
